General News: Public Hearing on Ethics Law
December 20, 2007
A new ethics law for elected officials and public employees in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson will be discussed at a public hearing to be held at the January meeting of the board of trustees.
The proposed law would create a new financial disclosure form for the trustees to fill out and generally update the current law that has been on the books since 1970.
Village attorney Howard Protter explained at the board’s session on Monday that the idea of revamping the law was first introduced in 1999 but no action was ever taken. He said that Mayor Joseph Gross decided to go ahead with the changes after he entered office earlier this year.
Protter also said that the proposed ethic law provides “more modern thinking” about ethics and creates a board of ethics, which the village currently does not have.
