The Village Square Improvement Association is hard at work to formulate recommendations on improving traffic flow and parking in the heart of the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Barbara Gosda, who is the chair of the group, told the trustees at their Monday meeting that the association has five goals and she reported on the progress made in achieving them.
* Improve Duncan Avenue and Hudson Street intersection – they have gotten input from the Department of Transportation on pedestrian safety and traffic calming.
* Improve the municipal lot and parking in general – they have met with Orange County planning officials.
* Enhance the pedestrian walkway by the bandstand – they have met with landscaper Eugene Randazzo who will work with them, the garden club and the bandstand committee to make the walkway more accessible.
* Gain access after-hours to the school district parking lot on Prospect Street – they have proposed this to the district and have discussed the need for signs to direct people to the area and from the area back to the village center.
* Create a design theme – they have discussed how to create unified theme for benches, lighting and other aspects of the village business district.
Gosda reminded those in attendance that the associations meetings, held the first Monday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall, are open to the public.
