Roy C. Sears, Jr., 53, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, died Saturday, December 15, 2007.

Roy was born in Margaretville, N.Y., on September 3, 1954.

Roy was one of the kindest and most generous people you could have had the pleasure of knowing.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted parents, Roy, Sr. and Betty J. Sears of Highland; brothers, Richard and his wife, Ali, of Naples, FL, and David and his wife, Liz, of Rosendale; sisters, Kathy Sears Halstead and her husband, John, of Highland and Mary Sears Uhomoibhi and her husband, Osa, of Marlboro; nieces, Janine and Jonni Halstead, and nephew, Justin Sears. Also surviving are his children: Stephanie and Erica Sears and Roy III and Charleigh Sears.

Roy was an ambitious and successful worker who started his career in 1972 washing airplanes at Stewart Airport. He then seized the opportunity to break into the Theatrical Design Industry. He worked as a stagehand, master carpenter and became President and Co-Owner of Scenic Technologies in New Windsor. Broadway plays that he worked on include Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Barnum, Can-Can, Me & My Girl, M Butterfly, and The Lion King. Roy also spend three years in Las Vegas "making EFX happen".

He was a big man with a big heart. He loved the New York Yankees and he loved to cook for lots and lots of friends and family.

Services are under the direction of Sutton Funeral Home, 1 Woodside Place, Highland, NY, and will take place on Tuesday, December 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Arrangements are by Sutton Funeral Home; 845-691-2141.

Comments:

I worked with Roy while I was at Scenic technologies. I had heard he was sick a few years ago, but had recovered. I'm sorry to learn of his death. My condolences to his family and friends (I include the people he worked with as "friends"!)
