The repair of the bridge on Mountain Road is nearing completion and David Halvorsen, the acting director of the Department of Public Works, says that hopefully the road will be blacktopped next week. Mountain Road was re-opened to traffic on Wednesday.
Halvorsen said that the project took longer than anticipated because the gas main that ran along the road was encased in concrete that had to be removed so Central Hudson could repair a leak.
Current plans call for the DPW to build a head wall that could be topped with a stone wall if the village is able to secure funding for the stonework. A guardrail will be installed that can also be removed at a later date. Halvorsen said the project was designed and paid for by FEMA, which specified all of the materials to use.
