General News: Village Police Uncover Valentine Treasure Hunt
February 20, 2007
Cornwall-on-Hudson police responded to a report of a suspicious bag at Donahue Memorial Park on Saturday that turned out to be a clue in an romantic scavenger hunt.
Police received a tip from a Port Authority police officer who happened to be walking his K-9 dog in the park early Saturday morning. He'd found a bag with what appeared to be a teddy bear wrapped inside and two fake red roses marking the site about 200 feet from the gazebo. The officer's dog examined the bag and did not detect any explosive residues.
When village officer Seth Armstrong arrived, he opened the bag and found a card inside that read, "I've locked up my heart, but this TIME you have the key. A place for ICE skating is where the next clue will be."
At that point Officer Armstrong realized that he had come upon a treasure hunt and took the bag and teddy bear back to the station. He called Ice Time in Newburgh and discovered that the rink was missing the locker key that was in the bag. All of the seized items were held as evidence.
Later that day, a woman, who has not been identified, came to the station. After describing all of the items, she left with the bag and teddy bear. It is not known if she then continued the romantic scavenger hunt.
