General News: Veterans Day Sculpture on View

Veterans Day Sculpture by Sheldon Stowe |
November 12, 2007
A patriotic piece of artwork went up on Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson early Sunday morning in recognition of Veterans Day.
Sheldon Stowe, who is a self-described collector of “stuff” and a history buff, says he created the tribute to veterans because Cornwall needs more patriotic flags and things.
He created the sculpture from cloth, red- and white-striped, then added small silk stars on a Styrofoam core. Portions of the sculpture are edged in recycled copper that he added for artistic flare. On a separate piece, the numbers 11-11-11 serve to mark the date and time that Veterans Day is observed.
