General News: Alcohol Leads to Suspensions at High School
February 13, 2007
A Valentine's Day dance at Cornwall Central High School Friday evening turned sour when several teens in attendance were found to be drinking alcohol.
Cornwall School District Superintendent Timothy Rehm said it was "an incident of alcohol consumption by a handful of students, not an incredibly large number, that have been dealt with according to our school code of conduct"
Rehmn said that the district's investigation into the incident is ongoing and he is unable to discuss the details of what happened, except to say that "there has been a small number of suspensions and we are handling it according to policy." He did clarify, however, that there were no drugs or controlled substances involved.
The consumption of alcohol at the party that was put on by the senior class comes four months after several eighth-grade students at the middle school were suspended for bringing vodka to school.
