Cornwall’s varsity football coach Marcus Hughes will be honored this weekend at Giants’ Stadium as the “The Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week.” The selection is awarded to coaches who show a continuing commitment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and overall community involvement.
The award, which includes a $1,000 donation to the varsity team, comes a week after the Green Dragons won the Section 9 championship title.
Cornwall’s Athletic Director Lou Cioffi, who hired Hughes this summer, acknowledges that it wasn’t easy for the new coach to come in on the back of a winning season last year.
“I’m very happy for him because he has really gained the respect of the community, the parents and his players,” Cioffi says. “He is very dedicated to his teaching and his coaching.”
Coach Hughes will be acknowledged by a stadium announcement when the Giants host the Dallas Cowboys on November 11th. An announcement will also be posted on the Giants web site, www.giants.com.
Hughes will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL Director of Football Operations Gene Washington, and the Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin.
