General News: Cornwall United Soccer Week Highlights

U9 GIRLS-
The Cornwall United Girls' U9 team beat the Tigers from Orange County Soccer club 2-1.

Olivia Davet got Cornwall on the board early with a drive to the goal, finishing with a hard shot to the back corner of the net.  Morgan VanLedtje added to the lead with a left - footed shot to the right hand corner of the goal.  

Sam Incognoli, Taylor Filippone, and the rest of the team demonstrated tremendous foot skills and ball control throughout the game, putting on a clinic of moves and passing ability.

U10 GIRLS-
The Cheetahs soundly defeated the Wappingers Wolves by a score of 6-1 to remain undefeated in league action.

Sam Nelbach opened up the scoring on a beautiful feed from Jillian Decker. Goals then followed by Katarina VanLedtje, Kaitlyn Preiss (2) Micah Wojehowski and Lauren Pinkham. Excellent offensive play by Emma Sabini and Jillian Larson helped provide the team with their many scoring opportunities. Strong defensive play by Ava Carter and Maddy Lander held the Wolves to just one goal. Giovanna Fichera showed her versatility by playing every position on the field.

U12 GIRLS-DRAGONCLAWS
The Dragon Claws defeated the Goshen Wave by a score of 3-2.

Victoria Colotti scored two goals, on assists by Samantha Fowler and Rebecca Baumel. Fowler scored the other goal, assisted by Alzira Fernandez.  Midfielder Amanda Sarchino handled the ball with surgical precision and Krissy McGonnigle was a relentless defender.  Another defensive stand out was Olivia Tellefsen, who anchored the
backfield.  Samantha Sabini had 5 excellent saves in goal in the second half.  

Goshen cut Cornwall’s 3-0 lead down to 3-2 in the waning minutes, but were not able to wrest the lead from the Dragon Claws’ powerful defense.

U14 GIRLS-
The Sabres recorded their sixth shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over the Brewster Blaze.

Celina Carrero scored the first goal of the game off of a beautiful feed from Amanda Fasano. Carly Tice continued her aggressive style of play, which led to her unassisted goal and a 2-0 Sabre lead. Melissa Mariani scored the Sabres final goal as she netted a terrific ball from Tice.

Allyson Sarchino gave the Sabres numerous scoring opportunities with terrific lead passes. The midfield play of Allyson LaGrutta and Andrea Mancuso kept Brewster from mounting any real scoring chances.

U9 BOYS
The Rangers U-9 team dropped a 2-0 decision against a very tough Carmel Hawks team.

The Cornwall club worked very well throughout the match, playing without subs.
The whole team did an outstanding job, launching many attacks from deep in their own side, working the ball out with some smart passing.

U10 BOYS
The Rovers lost a close and difficult match to the Goshen Arsenal 4 to 2.  

Salatiel Carino and Aleks Rosenbaum scored a goal each for the Rovers with  Aiden O’Keefe and Kieran McVan playing hard in the midfield.  David Schuyler gave another solid performance in the goal with Raffaele Aversa leading the defense along with Michael McGlaughlin and David Brubacher.

U12 BOYS
Dragons hung tough against a strong and undefeated opponent but lost a hard fought match 4-0.  

The defensive team of Dan Storer, Chase Huestis, Eric Growney, Tyler Spagnoli and Ty Molloy played with fortitude while Ben Skoog hustled all game.

U13 BOYS
The Cobras kept the attack up all day and defeated Red Hook 4-1.

Dylan Burns and J’von James narrowly missed on several chances in the first half before Eddie Flores, Edmond Myers, and Andrew Brellis (2) scored to seal the victory.  Jake Ross played a great game controlling the center of the field while Eric Braun, Abe Silfen, Pat McVan, and Nico Pasquariello stepped up to play exceptional defense.
