General News: Spaghetti Dinner and Midnight Run
February 08, 2007
By Susanne Vondrak
More than 230 people braved the cold Saturday night to enjoy the Cornwall Presbyterian Church’s annual Spaghetti Dinner. In its fifth successful year, this dinner was no exception. A delicious dinner was prepared and served by both young and old church volunteers and was followed by an amazing assortment of home-baked cakes, desserts and fruit salads. Martin Smith’s music students provided delightful live entertainment.
Proceeds from this year’s dinner will benefit the Midnight Run Organization. In over 900 relief missions per year, Midnight Run Volunteers from churches, synagogues, schools, and other civic groups distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to the homeless poor on the streets of New York City.
The late-night relief efforts create a forum for trust, sharing, understanding and affection. That human exchange, rather than the exchange of goods, is the essence of the Midnight Run mission. Their goal is to forge a bond between housed and homeless people by establishing a foundation of sharing and caring from which solutions may evolve.
The Cornwall Presbyterian Church is planning their next Midnight Run into NYC on Saturday night, March 24th. Pastor Dan Russell encourages anyone wishing to help with the coordination or with the run itself to please call the church office at 534-2903.
