General News: Schools Alert for Possible Infections
October 30, 2007
Cornwall Central School superintendent Timothy Rehm is reaching out to parents to inform them of steps being taken to protect against a virulent staph infection that has shown up in schools in several states, including New York.
The bacteria, known as MRSA, is resistant to antibiotic treatment and has resulted in the deaths of at least two students, one in Virginia and one in Brooklyn, New York.
Superintendent Rehm says that in order to minimize exposure, the school district has increased the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing all school buildings. The school district’s athletic department is distributing literature to students informing them about precautionary steps they should take. These measures include taking thorough showers after practices, not sharing towels, and alerting coaches to any open wound.

Have all the teachers read the materials and reinforce the "wash your hands frequently" message we've been hearing from health care professionals
