General News: Town Board Passes Resolution Supporting Petraeus
October 09, 2007
The Cornwall town board passed a resolution in support of “favorite son” General David H. Petraeus on Tuesday evening and condemning as “disrespectful” an ad that criticized the general when he testified in front of a Senate panel last month.
The resolution, which passed unanimously, expressed thanks and appreciation to General Petraeus who “set the standard for men and women in service to our country.”
General Petraeus is the top U.S. military commander in Iraq, in charge of the multinational force there. He testified last month about the current strategy for achieving stability in that country. At that time, the anti-war group MoveOn published a full-page ad mocking the general as “General Betray Us.”
Petraeus grew up in Cornwall-on-Hudson and graduated from Cornwall Central High School in 1970. (Read his exclusive interview about his youth in Cornwall here.)
After the passage of the resolution, town supervisor Richard Randazzo added personal thoughts. “We wish him godspeed in his mission in Iraq,” he said, “and to get our men and women home as soon as possible.”
