The Cornwall High School Class of 1965 - 50th Anniversary Reunion

The CCHS Class of 1965 converged on our quiet little town in the Hudson Valley after a five year search for it’s entire alumni. Painstaking efforts were made to “leave no one behind” including the deceased family members for the 50th Anniversary reunion celebration. The class spans the entire USA from coast to coast in 21 states and Canada. 57 classmates still reside in NYS and Florida has the next highest residency of 16. It was sad to learn that 21 had passed away beginning in 1967. The class included 50 members of the armed forces including one female who became a navy nurse. Fortunately, not one member was killed while serving in the five branches of the military.

The class began its celebration at the Orange County Chopper “Hanger” on Friday, Oct 16th with an icebreaker. Some 88 people were in attendance to renew old friendships while prizes were drawn and appetizers were eaten. It was a joyous occasion to say the least.

On Saturday morning, Oct 17th, about 16 classmates with guests returned to their Alma Mater on Main St. to see the a wonderfully maintained building and grounds. They were astonished to see the original auditorium seats renovated in Dragon green fabric and the terrazzo floors in very good condition. They reminisced with great laughter as they passed through corridors and investigated old classrooms.

The main celebration occurred at the lovely historic Krafft family’s Mountainville Manor on Saturday evening. 91 people were in attendance including 57 alumni members from an original class of 144. Wendy Maxson Zeller began the event with a prayer and Nancy Smith Morano read the “Foreword” portion from the original yearbook with a response. The program included awards, prizes, a musical performance, a skit by the four former class cheerleaders, dancing, a DVD 16 minute video presentation, greeters from the present varsity cheerleading squad and a tasty buffet. Greetings from classmates that could not attend were also read. Most notable was alumni member Mike Sillings, who drove his home crafted motorcycle almost 2800 miles from California to attend.

Organizers of the event Marlene Rieb Oehlrich, Jeanne Marquis Lug, Dale Kipp Conklin, Peggy Wojehowski Bourne, Jane Harkinson, Gale Koch Katencamp, JoAnn Lester Maucher, Nancy James Rathbun and George Kane created a flawless over the top event.

Alumni members in attendance were: John Adams, Larry Barbieri, Roy Barley, Peggy Blair Payne, Larry Boland, Art Callahan, Diane Cavalari Brown, Betsy Ciaffone Mosher, Steve Clark, Jackie Clouser Fare, Joel Conley, Mike Connolly, Donna Crook Henderson, Stephen Della Vedova, Sally Duffy Bryant, Penny Foster Khare, John Godfrey, Collette Guttman Kupferberg, Paul Howard, Nancy James Rathbun, Melvin Johnson, Sarah Johnston Marsh, George Kane, John Khare, Dale Kipp Conklin, Donald Klein, Gale Koch Katencamp, Barbara Koment Garay, Johanna Kuklis Sweikata, JoAnn Lester Maucher, Jeanne Marquis Lug, Wendy Maxson Zeller, Tom McCardle, Warren Mumford, Karl Najork, Barbara Navarra, Peter Oehlrich, Joe O’Rourke, Art Quinlan, Mary Ellen Randazzo Pembleton, Richard Rapp, Marlene Rieb Oehlrich, Lyle Sawyer, Bryan Schempf, Mike Sillings, Edwina Smith, Nancy Smith Morano, Anne Stahle Groh, Carol Stevenson Sheer, Maureen Sullivan, John Sutherland, Glenn Swenson, Dorothy Thorne Blesse, Barbara Vandermark O’Rourke, John Weaver, Jim Wentink, Peggy Wojehowski Bourne, Art Yaple and Elissa Zahn.
