Library Announces Sound Mitigation Project Installation
Cornwall, NY – On January 5th, 2015, the Cornwall Public Library will begin the library’s sound mitigation project. The library will be installing acoustical canopies over the children’s area and the circulation desk to help mitigate the noise that travels down the library’s barrel vault ceiling. This project was initiated because of input that we received from the community as part of our long range planning process. The funding for this project is coming from a number of sources. The library was awarded a grant through the New York State Public Library Construction program. We are also very pleased to report that Senator Larkin has secured $50,000 in state funds for the library’s renovation projects and a portion of these funds will be used for this project. In addition, our Cornwall Public Library Foundation has very successfully been raising funds towards the sound mitigation project, as well as other library projects.
The installation will begin on January 5th in the children’s area. While the sound panels are being installed, portions of the library may be unavailable to the public. Although the children’s picture book collection will temporarily be under scaffolding, we will be putting aside a small collection to browse. While the panels are being installed over the circulation desk, there will be periods of time when the library will need to be closed to the public for safety reasons. We are working closely with the contractors to make sure that we minimize any inconvenience to the public. Please look for continuing updates as we proceed, as we work to complete this much-needed project in a timely manner. We are looking forward to a much more acoustically comfortable library for our community.
