Greg Melnick featured in Flamenco Concert

CORNWALL, NY – On Sunday, May 5th at 2:00 p.m., Cornwall Public Library will present a FREE concert of Flamenco guitar and dance featuring Greg Melnick, guitarist, and Flamenco dancer, Juana Cala. The program will take place at Munger Cottage located up the hill directly behind the library.

Greg Melnick is a 30 year resident of Cornwall, New York, having graduated from Cornwall High School, class of 1990. In 2004, Greg began studying Flamenco guitar in New York City and he traveled to Spain in 2006 – visiting the region of Andalusia and the cities of Malaga, Seville, Jerez de Frontera and Cordoba – for intensive study and immersion of the Flamenco genre. Melnick will present a variety of flamenco styles to include Alegría, Solea, Tango, Farruca, Sevillana, Rumba and Zambra.
Juana Cala has been performing and teaching Flamenco in the United States and Europe for more than 20 years. She performed as a soloist in the Maria Benitez Dance Company under the direction of Mario Maya, and then went on to form her own company touring Europe for 16 years. Juana has had the opportunity to work closely with acclaimed Flamenco artists such as; Antonio Canales, Javier Baron, El Junco and Alfredo Lagos. Juana enjoys sharing her experience by teaching Flamenco, from introductory courses to Master workshops for professionals.

The concert is sponsored by the Friends of Cornwall Public Library and the Cornwall Public Library Foundation, and is the third event in the Library’s “World/Ethnic Music in America” Concert Series.
