Letters to the Editor: Time to Get Your Lobsters!

Cornwall Lions Selling Lobsters
Cornwall Lions Selling Lobsters
July 02, 2013

In 1980 - yes, 33 years ago!- Lobster Festival Chairman, Ted “Red Tide” Knapp informed the Cornwall Lions membership of the upcoming Lobster Sale at the Cornwall Businessman's Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, Sept. 6th. Due to the positive response for lobsters, it was decided to order an additional 300 pounds for a total of 1300 lbs. The Lobsters were to be delivered live to Newburgh on Friday, where they were then transported to Cornwall Saturday morning through the courtesy of Petlinis Milk Company and Lion Frank Doupana. The “boiling tub” was being loaned to us by Cornwall veterinarian, Dr. Donahue [We don't even want to think what the tub was normally used for!] and was heated with fuel and a burner provided by the Cornwall Oil Co.

Lion Luddy Harrison has been running it for the past 15 years. During Luddy's stewardship, the Lobster Sale has been one of the best fundraisers the Cornwall Lions have had. Historically, the Lions sell about 1,000 lobsters each year. Lions Ed Moulton and Ron Tulloch recall a time when the Lions we flew the lobster in fresh from Boston direct from the Lobster men. In fact, on one 4th of July, we had bad weather and the plane couldn't land and we were out of luck for delivery for 4th of July dinner!

Please help out the Lions and make sure order a few for your 4th of July festivities! Order via Hazard's Pharmacy [call 845-534-4345] or send an email to [email protected] with the number of lobsters and we'll send you a invoice via PayPal. A limited number will be available at the fair. You will need to pick up your lobsters by 3:00PM. Cost of lobsters this year are $13/each.

Thanks so much!
