Dear Editor,
As the parent of a very happy camper for the last three years, I would like to spread the word about a fun, affordable camp option for budding young thespians, singers, dancers and lovers of the theatrical arts.
The Town of Cornwall Recreation Department offers a great summer theater camp program for kids, ages 10-16, open to Town and non-Cornwall residents alike.
This unique camp experience is led by an extremely talented, vivacious group of young adults with a passion for the arts, dedicated to teaching acting, singing and dancing in a fun, approachable method. It is obvious that, to the staff, this is more than just a summer job. The instructors care deeply about the impact of the performing arts on young people, and hold firm to the belief that appreciating and participating in theater produces well-rounded students who are willing to seize new opportunities.
And they do their job well. By the end of the session, the campers will have crafted a stage-ready production that will impress you beyond belief. Last year's show was Oklahoma, and it was a resounding success. This year's show is a special version of Disney's The Little Mermaid...an instant classic and sure to please.
Most importantly, the instructors maintain a fun, pressure-free environment to produce a seamless final performance that fills the campers (and their families) with pride and delight. In only two hours a day, these kids not only have time to learn an entire show and rehearse it, but also participate in fun, improvisational theater games and exercises that will boost self-esteem, teach cooperation and discipline.
Each child will shine, whether they are a theater novice or "seasoned pro," regardless of their role on stage, because they will have bonded with their fellow campers to create nothing less than magic...
