I thought I would take just a moment of your time to let you know how very well Town of Cornwall personnel performed their duties last night during our second bout with "Mother Nature".
I was out and about assisting my family members who had become stranded in the ice and snow and both out Highway Department and Police personnel gave me the impression that they were here, there and everywhere.
The Highway Department kept out main town roads very well sanded/salted and plowed and secondary roads were kept in such a manner as to be easily driven upon without danger. Even tertiary road areas were run-thru and were passable for emergency use if necessary.
The Police Department did one hell of a great job assisting the NYDOT highway crews sand, salt, plow, and clear all the many disabled vehicles that were stuck on Route 9-W obstructing access to the jackknifed gasoline tractor trailer tanker up at the top of Storm King on 9-W, and did so under extremely treacherous and hazardous conditions, all while directing
traffic away from the scene, closing the highway to prevent further mishap, and handling calls at other locations.
I would also like to compliment the DOT for a job well done also, being that their trucks were not only caught in the snarl of traffic on the mountain but were also assisting at other accident scenes such as on Route 218 which was also closed
due to weather.
Finally a note about the tie operators on scene at the mountain; what a good job they all did.
