The Cornwall Independence Day Committee has begun fundraising to cover the expenses of the celebration Thursday, July 4, and asks the Cornwall community to support the celebration.
The committee has chosen Cornwall residents Betty and Chick Jurgens as grand marshals of the parade, to honor them for all they have done to strengthen our community. Betty and Chick have worked with many community organizations, especially in the area of sports.
The committee is working hard to raise the $35,000 needed for the celebration – the fireworks alone cost $12,000 and the parade bands cost about $10,000.
The committee is selling raffle tickets for dinners for two at three restaurants. The committee is also selling T-shirts, featuring the gazebo on the Hudson River in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, for $15. One of our major fundraisers is the souvenir program; please contact us if you would like to place an ad, especially if you’d like to honor Betty and Chick Jurgens. We will also sell loop-a-lites and water and soda on the Fourth, and as usual, we will have a coin drop in the evening of the Fourth. Donations are always welcome and may be sent to: CIDC, P.O. We will hold a spaghetti dinner from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, June 15, (Father’s Day eve) in St. Thomas gymnasium to honor fathers and raise money for the fireworks display. Tickets prices: adults: $10; children: 5-12: $5; 4 and under: free.
The committee needs more members and volunteers to raise funds, to coordinate the day’s activities, to set up on July 3rd and break down on July 5th. Please consider joining us. More details as we get closer to the Fourth.
