General News: Trees for Troops

November 30, 2018

Hines and Farrell join Farmside Acres in Cornwall to provide Trees for Troops this Holiday Season

Approximately 800 Christmas trees shipped to military families

Goshen, N.Y. - Orange County Legislator Kevin Hines and Veterans Service Agency Director Christian Farrell proudly participated in Farmside Acres’ annual “Trees for Troops” donation drive on Monday, November 26th in Cornwall.

With the help of Hines and Farrell, the 105th Airlift Wing and students from Lee Road Elementary School in Cornwall, Farmside Acres shipped approximately 800 Christmas trees. The 105th Airlift Wing is a unit of the New York Air National Guard stationed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh.

“Trees for Troops is a great way to show appreciation for the men and woman of our armed services that protect our freedom and way of life,” Hines said. “I thank the Nannini family for their guidance and leadership in this great cause. This is Farmside Acres’ 10th year participating and the event continues to grow. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend and kick off the Holiday season.”

Since 2009, Farmside Acres, owned by Bob Nannini and his family, has collected donations for the Trees for Troops program. Through donations, sponsorships, grants and the work of many volunteers, Trees for Troops provides the farm-grown Christmas Trees to United States armed forces members in all branches of the military and their families in the U.S. and overseas. Since 2005, FedEx has shipped more than 200,000 real Christmas trees to service members and their families in every branch of the military in approximately 65 bases in 17 countries.
“For 10 years, the Trees for Troops program has ensured our servicemen and women enjoy the spirit of the Holiday season, no matter where they are stationed,” Farrell said. “This event brings the community together and is a wonderful way to provide some Christmas much needed cheer. We are all appreciative of the sacrifice of these brave members of our military and hope this small gesture shows that.”
