June 19th 2017
By Hannah Comitz

Police awards for bravery and heroic efforts were awarded to Charles Hofmann, and Nicholas Schust. They participated in a vehicular pursuit after observing dangerous conditions. Hofmann followed the vehicle and witnessed the vehicle roll and catch on fire. The quick actions of Hofmann and Schust saved the driver from the fire, while risking their own lives.
After the awards were granted, the council and attendees of the board meeting sang Happy Birthday to Chief Dixon.

433 calls for service were recorded this month.

Mark Edsall stated that the Fire Chief emphasized a "need for affordable housing for young volunteers" in order to promote membership to the firehouse.

Cameras were installed to have a better view of the crosswalks around the fire house.

The chief also discussed having improved coordination with other departments to have better response to cross river emergencies.

Kenneth Schmidt discussed the filling of pot holes, the fixing of roads, along with tree trimming that took place this month. Mayor Coyne discussed implementing a better and more frequent policy for tree trimming in the community.

Mayor Coyne made a motion to approve new statements for workplace violence prevention. The policy designates the contact person for these issues as the village clerk, Jeanne Mahoney. This policy also approved a new record keeping system for work place violence.

This summer's recreation program counselors were listed and said to be paid $9 an hour. A number of soon to be graduates of the highschool and rising seniors are working at the camp this summer. An EMT is being being hired and paid at a rate of $11 per hour. This program starts July 4th, with about 100 children registered.

Mountainville Well:
Originally Kiryas Joel applied to take 612 thousand gallons per day out in the initial application. This would serve as a backup incase the current aqueduct shut down. Testing of the pipe determined that there would be effects on the recharge of other wells. The permit was originally given with no restrictions on use as backup or main. Motion was granted to prevent KJ from taking water until repeal was determined. Kiryas Joel's motion for allowing to take 2000 gallons a day from the well was denied. KJ is looking into becoming an actual town, which might impact the lawsuit regarding the well.

Zombie Utility poles :
Laws will take care of broken poles and old zombie poles, which endanger the public. Attorney stated that Central Hudson's proposal has substantial revisions, which change the entire original law proposed. New revisions has made it difficult to address immediate needs which could put many in danger. Trustee Edsall mentioned asking the company "has it worked? " and consider that the simplified version has been adopted by other areas.

The committee will review the proposed land swap on Palomino road.

NYS family paid leave as a way to help employees set aside money for emergencies.

Petition regarding speed limits has been made because many speeders have been seen on the streets. Town residences are encouraging the chief to put more patrol on roads.

Girls on the run event on 6/17/17 went very well, and many young girls participated.

NHS car wash is coming up soon in August.

100 flags on Flag Day last week were retired.

Last Remarks:
Storm King Art Center is now open to the public.
There was a good turn out for Hudson River Art Fest.
And finally, congratulations to police officers who were awarded.
