General News: Click It or Ticket Campaign

May 19, 2017

Click It or Ticket Campaign Starts May 22nd
Town of Cornwall Police Will Show Zero Tolerance

As summer kicks off and families hit the road for vacations, the Town of Cornwall Police Department is reminding motorist to Click It or Ticket. Aimed at enforcing seatbelt used to help keep you and your family safe, the national seat belt campaign will take place May 22nd through June 4, concurrent with one of the busiest travel and holiday weekends of the year.

"Our law enforcement personnel see firsthand the loss of life when people refuse to buckle up," said Chief Hazard of the Town of Cornwall Police Department. "It's such a simple thing, and it should be an automatic next step after sitting down in the vehicle." As the memorial day weekend approaches and the summer vacation season ramps up, "We want to keep our community members safe, and make sure people are doing the one thing that can save them in a crash: buckling up. If the enforcement crack down wakes people up to the dangers of unrestrained driving and gets them to buckle up, will consider it a success."

The town of Cornwall Police Department will have officers to dedicated to enforcing the NYS Seatbelt and occupant restraint laws during this time period.

Comments:

One of the many positive aspects of living in Cornwall is our police department. The police are respectful, polite, generally unseen, and seem to do their job well. To me, they appear to understand well the function of peace officers.

Now it seems like the police chief thinks this isn't good enough. It sounds like the police will become more "pro-active" aka, annoying, with a campaign to save Cornwall residents from themselves.

I guess nothing good lasts forever.
