Neuhaus joins Farmside Acres in Cornwall to provide Trees for Troops this Holiday Season

Approximately 500 Christmas trees shipped to military families

Goshen, N.Y. - Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus proudly participated in Farmside Acres’ annual “Trees for Troops” donation drive on a rainy Tuesday morning in Cornwall.

With the help of Neuhaus, the 105th Airlift Wing and fourth-grade students from Lee Road Elementary School in Cornwall, Farmside Acres shipped about 500 Christmas trees. The 105th Airlift Wing is a unit of the New York Air National Guard stationed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh.

Neuhaus was also joined at the event by Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney.

“I’m certainly appreciative that Bob Nannini (owner of Farmside Acres) and his family have made this an annual event,” Neuhaus said. “It brings the community together and serves as a wonderful way to provide some Christmas cheer to our brave servicemen and women, and their families. We are all appreciative of their sacrifice and hope this small gesture shows that. I enjoyed spending time at Farmside Acres a group of great people.”

All trees collected will go to families at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia. Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield make up the Army’s renowned training and military armored power projection combination in the Eastern U.S. This base allows military units in the region to deploy rapidly throughout the world. Since 2009, Farmside Acres has collected donations for the Trees for Troops program, which brings farm-grown Christmas Trees to U.S. troops and families at military bases in the U.S. and overseas.

Trees for Troops provides farm-grown Christmas Trees to United States armed forces members in all branches of the military and their families, through donations, sponsorships, grants and the work of many volunteers. Since 2005, FedEx has shipped more than 176,000 real Christmas trees to service members and their families in every branch of the military in approximately 65 bases in 17 countries at no charge.

“We are grateful that County Executive Neuhaus has taken such an interest in Tress for Troops and our family farm,” Nannini said. “From spreading the word throughout the county, to physically loading trees on pick-up day, Mr. Neuhaus has been a tremendous supporter. It’s clear that he values and respects everything that our servicemen and women do for our country.”
