Blood-screening available to residents of Newburgh area who may have been exposed to PFOS
Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY – The New York State Health Department recently announced it would provide free blood testing for residents of the Newburgh area that may have been exposed to Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) found in Lake Washington, which had provided the City of Newburgh's water supply until early May 2016.
People who live outside of the City of Newburgh and who may have concerns about PFOS exposure, such as those who work or go to school in the city, may avail themselves of the blood-screening program. An Oct. 26 news story mentioned municipalities in proximity to the City of Newburgh, including Cornwall-on-Hudson, as examples of municipalities whose residents might choose to do so.

The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson water system is tested quarterly and the water meets all standards for regulated contaminants. As an additional safeguard, the state health department will soon test the village water system for PFOS and other PFCs.
