CORNWALL, NY - At 6 pm, on September 11th, the Town and Village of Cornwall gathered at Chadeayne Traffic Circle to honor Kenneth Kumpel. More than 500 people attended the memorial, including his family, Highland Engine Co., FDNY, Military personnel, and local Boy Scouts. The entire Town Board was in attendance, along with the Village.

Senator Larkin and Assemblyman Skoufis were the first few to speak. Then Town Supervisor, Randy Clark, took to the podium as he recalled that day; “The day the world stopped turning.” Many of us remember that day as clearly as it was yesterday. None of us expected that beyond the bright blue sky, our lives were about to change, our whole country changed within minutes.

It was that day, Mayor Coyne stated in his speech, that “we came together, here in Cornwall.” Cornwall came together, again, to honor Ken Kumpel, whose memorial bears a piece of the World Trade Center.
Greg Kumpel, one of Ken’s sons, thanks everyone for coming to ceremony. He went on to thank the entire Town and Village for supporting him and his family after his father’s passing. He said that “it was hard to lose my father, but the way the town came together to help, even with simple things, like a warm meal. It was truly appreciated, and we’re grateful to this community.”
