Letters to the Editor: Letter from Town Supervisor

May 19, 2015

Dear Editor,

Voters elected me Supervisor to lead the town and address issues affecting our town and quality of life. Imagine if there were no NYMA concerns, a restored Homestead, the golf course operating in the black. More importantly, WE( the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson) control, regulate and monitor how much water is extracted from the Mountainville reserve wells and our acquifiers. Then imagine lower taxes while still having excellent schools and municipal services.

For the past year and a half, I’ve been doing my job by working to invest in our community and planning for our future. There is never a good time to spend money to secure any and all of the above, what’s the alternative?

As an investment advisor, financial planner and strategist, I am determined NYMA not succumb to outside groups who have a different plan or goals from what most of us have here. Cornwall’s growth indicates we have a strong need for the NYMA property and the town board would be willing to lease back a portion of the property to those interested in continuing to operate as a school; and who support our community.

If the Town can secure Cornwall’s 121 year old golf course (at a reasonable price), we should. It makes sense, especially knowing its history and how it was intentionally structured--no one entity can ever really own it. This would generate revenue as well as boost our local economy and tourism if we turn it into a municipal course and public restaurant.

When the Mountainville wells were purchased by the Village of KJ, and subsequent construction of the water pipeline began, those of you who know me know I have been diligent and unwavering in my stand that no one has the right to take our water, period. Our responsibility to our existing community means that Cornwall’s future is as important as any other municipality and I continue to do everything in my power to make it as such.

Keep informed with what is happening in Cornwall, on the Town level. I invite you to come to one of the monthly meetings and/or visit cornwallny.com, go to minutes to follow your town. Thank you.

Randy Clark
