Retired NASA Expert to Give Climate Change Talk
CORNWALL, NY – What is climate change, and how will it challenge us? Dr. Charles P. Holmes will be giving a talk on Climate Change in the Lower Hudson Valley at the Cornwall Public Library on Monday, April 16 at 6:30 PM. His talk will focus on how climate change is affecting the Lower Hudson Valley and New York City, and will show evidence that the climate is changing in our own back yard. He will also discuss the steps that we can start taking now – as individuals, as communities, and as a nation.
Dr. Holmes earned his doctorate in Nuclear Science and Engineering from Cornell University, and he has a BS in Physics from the US Air Force Academy. He worked for the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Johns Hopkins University as the Operations Scientist for the NASA’s Far-Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer. Dr. Holmes then worked as the director of NASA’s Heliophysics Great Observatory (HPGO) for eleven years and in 2008 received NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal. After retiring from NASA, he served for four years as the Vice-chair of the IT Infrastructure Committee of the NASA Advisory Council and for two years as the Chair of the Big Data Task Force. He is active in his local community and performs with the Hudson Opera Theater and the Warwick Valley Chorale.
