Cornwall Public Library Hosting The Great Give Back
CORNWALL – Cornwall Public Library’s Teen Underclassmen Team (T.U.T.) is hosting an event called The Great Give Back, from 10am-12:30pm Oct. 19. The Great Give Back is a community service initiative providing a day of opportunity for public library patrons in New York State to participate in meaningful, service-oriented experiences. This year marks the pilot year that expands the initiative from Long Island to the rest of the state.
Here in Cornwall, we have invited nine local nonprofit organizations that rely on volunteers to set up information booths. Library visitors will be able to sign up with those organizations to volunteer in the future, as well as participate in several other activities throughout the day: making cards to send to a local hospital (all day), learning to loom-knit hats or scarves that can be donated to those in need (11am-1pm), and taking home a Trick-or-Treat with UNICEF collection box (while supplies last). We'll also be collecting coats and diapers for the weeks before and after our fair (Oct. 12-26).
This a great opportunity to connect with local organizations that will need help in the coming year.
Our Teen Underclassmen Team is a group of dedicated students in Grades 6-12 who volunteer their time to improve the Cornwall Library through brainstorming new program ideas, executing big projects and events, and advising on new material purchases for the library collection.
