Sugar Loaf, NY (OCLT): Tickets are now on sale for the Orange County Land Trust 20 Year Anniversary Benefit Reception - From the Hudson to the Delaware…A Legacy of Land - a celebration of open space preservation and farmland protection, to be held at the historic Bear Mountain Inn on Friday, June 7.
From the Hudson to the Delaware….A Legacy of Land will honor two decades of land protection by Orange County Land Trust, with a special tribute to Land Trust Founder and former County Executive Louis V. Mills.
The Honorable Sean Patrick Maloney, Member of Congress will provide opening remarks, and special recognition will be given to the Land Trust’s partners in conservation, past board members and conserved landowners.
Conservation partners to be recognized include Orange County, NYS DEC Region 3 and its Hudson River Estuary Program, Open Space Institute, Scenic Hudson, The Nature Conservancy, Hudson Highlands Land Trust, Town of Warwick, Palisades Interstate Parks Commission, NY-NJ Trail Conference, Orange Environment, The Sterling Center, Black Rock Forest Consortium, and Land Trust Alliance.
Guests will enjoy cocktail style dining, with an elaborate array of regionally inspired hors d’oeuvres and food stations, and local wines and cocktails making the evening a wonderful celebration of land conservation. A unique silent auction is planned with items ranging from an African Safari, weekend getaway to Nantucket, to local food and art. In addition, an award winning 18K gold pendant by renowned Sugar Loaf jeweler Rachel Bertoni will be raffled that evening. Only 100 raffle tickets will be sold, with ticket sales beginning May 1. Music will be provided by Mike Jackson, a local jazz guitarist.

Built in 1915 in the Adirondack Great Camp style, the Bear Mountain Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is described as one of the earliest examples of a monumental park lodge built in national and state parks during the early 20th century. Located in Bear Mountain State Park, it recently reopened after undergoing a multiyear renovation.

Since 1993, the Orange County Land Trust has helped preserve nearly 4,700 acres of land in communities throughout Orange County and one in Sullivan County. These lands include working farms, ecologically important wetlands, old growth woodlands, scenic ridgelines and wildlife corridors. The Land Trust owns and stewards over 1,000 acres of land that is open to the public for hiking and other forms of passive recreation. In addition, the Trust recently entered into an agreement with the Town of Warwick to monitor and steward nearly 3,000 acres protected through the town’s Community Preservation program.
