The NewYork State Police and Cornwall-On Hudson Police have determined the death of Byrant J. Furchak, age 44, from New Windsor, NY to be the result of a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

A comprehensive investigation was conducted on Fuchak's death from which it was determined that there was no other party present when the shooting took place late Sunday night. The investigation encompassed numerous area interviews as well as video and telecommunication analysis.

The New York State Police Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Computer Crimes Unit all assited in this investigation.

On August 24, 2014 at 11:58 PM, the Cornwall-On-Hudson Police Department responded to a 911 call at Church Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY, for an unresponsive male.

The New York State Police in conjunction with the Cornwall-On-Hudson Police Department are investigating the death of Bryant J. Furchak, age 44, from New Windsor, NY, who was found deceased from a gun shot wound along side his 2008 gray Nissan Xterra.

The State Police are asking anyone with information pertaining to the movements of Furchak in the hours prior to his death or anyone who was in the vicinity of Church Street and Hudson Street on Sunday night between the hours of 11 PM and Midnight are asked to call the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Montgomery at 845-457-1389. All calls will remain confidential.

A weapon believed to be used in the shooting belonged to Furchak and was recovered at the scene. There is no indication of a broader danger to the Cornwall community at this time.
