Letters to the Editor: Everyone Deserves Respect!

July 22, 2014

Everyone Deserves Respect!

I have recently attended a few Town Board meetings where I have watched a lack of respect shown by the Supervisor, Mr. Clark towards our community volunteers and organizations.

At the recent meetings held this month, the Veterans were in attendance to finalize the placement of a pre-approved Military Medal of Honor Memorial. They provided the Board with a full report, answering questions related to location and cost. It was obvious that Mr. Clark did not agree with their request, but there was no reason to be condescending and disrespectful to a group of our residents who have fought for our Country’s freedom. Sadly a few years ago, Mr. Clark even opposed the Emergency Services Monument and Park, which honors our dedicated community Emergency Service organizations.

I find it appalling listening to the Supervisor publicly disagree in a demeaning manner with the President of the Friends of Sands-Ring Homestead. This organization provided funding to the Town to be used towards a new roof on the Homestead, which last year Mr. Clark voted not to accept. It is unfortunate that months later, a lack of communication is still an issue and action is being attempted by him without any discussion with the Trustees and members of the Sands-Ring Homestead. Even a resident pointed out that the wording of an original Sands-Ring resolution for the meeting placed on the town web-site; held insolent verbiage towards this volunteer organization.

In a community like ours, all those who volunteer and serve deserve our upmost respect and gratitude for their efforts and should not receive anything less.

Mary Beth Greene-Krafft

Comments:

This is upsetting to hear. I would hope that our elected officials are qualified to engage in civil discourse with members of our community.
