Letter to the Editor:
Whether you like president Trump or not, the one thing I think we can all agree on is that his presidency has generated an outpouring of interest in local politics. The NY Senate race in the 39th district between Democrat James Skoufis and Republican Tom Basile is a case in point.
I can’t remember ever seeing so many lawn signs, mailings and TV ads for a state senate election. After the last batch of campaign literature arrived in my mailbox, I decided to do a little digging and went the candidate’s websites. I would urge anyone reading this letter to do the same.
What I found on the Skoufis website was a straightforward list of the things he’s done in the state assembly for the people in his district. Agree or disagree with Mr. Skoufis, no one could say that he hasn’t produced results for his constituents. On the Basile website I found a list of his personal accomplishments, but nothing about what he’s achieved during his time as a Councilman in the Town of Stony Point.
Where Skoufis gave concrete examples, Basile gave vague platitudes. I’m more interested in getting results from my representative than hearing political slogans, whether it’s coming from the left or the right, and for that reason Mr. Skoufis gets my vote.
Respectfully yours,
Rick Siggelkow
Resident of the Town of Stony Point
