Dear Editor,
I seldom write letters (to anyone!) but felt moved to write this one in support of James Skoufis. James has been working hard and well for the Hudson Valley for six years and has been available to talk on a regular basis. His moral character, intelligence, and ability to work with different types of people make him the person I want to represent me in Albany—not Tom Basile (who, by the way, was extremely arrogant to advertise that he is “our” senator).
I am tired of the nastiness with which people treat each other. I am tired of the half-truths about voting records (look into some of the claims in the negative campaign ads, and you are likely to be surprised). I am tired of the general unwillingness to listen to other points of view. The American political system set up by our founding fathers was one based on compromise for the good of all—not special interests, bloc votes, loud left- or right-wing groups, or party lines. It is unrealistic to expect that I would agree with every decision that ANY of my local, state or Federal representatives would make. What is realistic is that I can choose a Senator who I believe will do the right thing.
I voted for Bill Larkin year after year. Now that he’s in his well-deserved retirement, I will vote for James Skoufis who I trust to listen, evaluate, compromise, and decide as my representative in the NYS Senate.
Thank you,
Rhonda Growney
Proud to be an American Republican
