General News: Library Vote

CORNWALL PUBLIC LIBRARY 2017-2018
ANNUAL OPERATING BUDGET VOTE AND TRUSTEE ELECTION

CORNWALL, NY – The vote for the library’s annual operating budget, along with the trustee election featuring four local residents vying for two open seats on the Library Board will be held in the library from 9:00 a.m-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Information on budget details and trustee candidates is available on our website, www.cornwallpubliclibrary.org, as well as on display in the lobby of the library.

Also on April 18 at 6:30pm, the library will again be hosting the Delaware Valley Raptor Center’s Bill Streeter with his very popular Birds of Prey program, featuring 5 to 6 live raptors.

Community is the heart of our library. This year we committed to expanding the relationships we’ve built with the Chamber of Commerce, the school district, numerous town-wide organizations, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, the cultural arts community, and of course, our almost 10,000 loyal library members. Through programs like “Community Conversations,” we offer monthly forums on issues of importance to Cornwall residents. As a Chamber member, we host business breakfasts, participate in festivals, engage downtown businesses in our summer story walk, and are a stop on the Shop Hop. Our Friends group sponsored Little League this past summer. Recently, we forged a relationship with the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra and sponsored a bus trip to the March performance that garnered special acknowledgement to all the Cornwall residents in the audience. “Our role is as facilitator, catalyst, motivator, educator and collaborator in the community,” according to Mary Lou Carolan, Director of the Cornwall Public Library. “Our attendance and usage numbers for programs, collections and services show our values are in line with the values of the Cornwall community. We are successful because of the enduring support and commitment of our community and we rely on this support to keep our doors open wide.”
