The mayor of Cornwall-on-Hudson is asking customers of the village water department to conserve their water usage as a result of the tremendous drain on the water supply created by the five-alarm fire at the Cornwall Industrial Park that still has not been completely put out.   Firefighters are still on the scene Monday morning, spraying water on hot spots throughout the complex.

Mayor Brendan Coyne declared a state of emergency as of 1:30 am on Monday so that the water department can restore the water supply, which was also adversely impacted by a water main break at the scene of the fire Sunday afternoon.  Workers finished repairing the break around 9am on Monday and Mayor Coyne said the emergency may be lifted later in the day.

Massive amounts of water have been used to try to control the blaze that began on Sunday shortly after 10am.   Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it destroyed the historic brick buildings that housed the former Firthcliff Carpet Mill but several large warehouses were destroyed in the blaze.
