Photos: Hudson River Sloop Remains

Frank Ostrander took this back-and-white photo in Fort Montgomery, near the footbridge across Popolopen Creek.

He found the remains of one of the hundreds of wooden ships that sailed the Hudson River in days gone gone by.

Comments:

That's one of the two old ore carriers that are beached and sunk in the gorge. They were once cargo sloops, then the masts were taken off, and the hulls converted into barges.
They date from early XXth century, and were associated with the iron mines further up the creek.
