Obituaries: Frank J. O'Donnell

 Frank J. O’Donnell of Cornwall-on-Hudson, entered into rest on Sunday, January 7, 2018. He was 94.

The son of the late Joseph W. and Jane Bockis O’Donnell, he was born on July 16, 1923 in Cornwall, NY.

Frank graduated from Cornwall High School in 1941 then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving five years. He was an Aviation Radioman and an Air Crewman in PBY aircraft. He also served in the Pacific area aboard the USS Kwajalein, CVE-98.

He was a retired Contracting Officer at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he was employed for over 41 years. Frank was a member and trustee of the Cornwall Historical Society and also a longtime member and Past Commander of The American Legion Cornwall Post 353.

Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Wisner O’Donnell, at home; sister-in-law, Sister Mary Ellen Wisner, plus several cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred VanAmburgh Holmes.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10 from 5-8pm at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 11 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Frank’s memory be made to The American Legion Post 353, P.O. Box 353, Cornwall, NY 12518.
