Cornwall Central School District Board of Education: 9/12/17
By Hannah Comitz

Public Comments:
A man sent a letter to the board regarding the freshman football team's funds. He wanted the money, not used by the team, to be transferred to the JV lacrosse team. The board said that the answer will be discussed at a future meeting.

Proposed Facilities Project:
The board is considering expanding the timeline on these issues to get the community involved. The total costs of all district facilities being updated will be around $47,185,075.

Lee Road:
Asphalt replacement at the Cornwall elementary school is looking to be repaired due to its condition. The bad condition is due to its poor drainage system. This is an important need because lawsuits have been filed and people have been hurt. The area is also near the athletic complex, which increases its importance.

Middle School:
The board is looking to replace the locker rooms at the middle school. There is no properly functioning HVAC, showers, and there is limited lighting. These along with the other dangerous conditions create a need for renovations. There is also consideration of renovating the corridors at the middle school.

The High School:
Only the flat roof is needed to be replaced at the high school. There is a tragic need for additional PE stations. Students have a small space for weightlifting and are forced to do it in the hallway, which is dangerous. The plans are looking to extend the weight room and wrestling room. Storage is also needed for the PE department. Compared to other schools the locker space is very minimal at our school. New plans were presented to possibly improve this area of the school.

A New Face at the High School:
Chrysantag Gianiodis is a new teacher entering the school district to the high school. The board is very impressed with her talents and is excited to have her join the district. She is able to speak and teach students in multiple languages. Chrysantag Gianiodis says "excited to learn the culture of Cornwall." She also says that she is used to a large school like Newburgh and is now excited to be able to make personal connections with her students. She is now helping multiple students become accustomed to the high school.
