Obituaries: Patricia Lanning Sullivan

June 20, 2017

Patricia Lanning Sullivan entered into eternal rest on June 16, 2017. She was 86 years old.

Daughter of the late Thomas J. and Mary Cloidt Lanning, she was born in Mount Kisco, NY, the first of four children. Pat graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1949 and worked at Macy’s in White Plains before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force as Airman, Third Class during the Korean War. Pat was initially stationed near San Antonio, TX before moving to Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, NY. While home on leave, she was spotted by Vincent Sullivan, who was coincidentally home on leave from the Navy. He called her that night and they dated for just a few weeks. On December 13, 1952, they were married.
Pat became the mother of three children and dedicated herself to their early years of development. After moving to Cornwall on Hudson in 1965, she became active in the Cornwall community. As President of the PTA, she converted the schools to a PTO system to better fit the needs of the community and to eliminate state and national organization fees. She later became a realtor and spent over 35 years selling houses to future neighbors and friends. Pat was a member of Catholic Daughters and a local Republican Committeewoman. She volunteered at the Cornwall Hospital (later St. Luke’s), delivered senior meals, and served as lector at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, all for many decades.

A loving, kind, and fun wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Pat became known as “Molly Brown” for her independent spirit and courageous attitude. She brought happiness and joy into the lives of her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Anderson of Cornwall on Hudson, son Vincent Sullivan and his wife Sonja of Harbour Island, Bahamas, son Brian Sullivan and his wife Leslie of Newtown Square, PA; her grandchildren Geoffrey, Annie, and Janie Anderson; her sisters Helen Havery of Sebring, FL and Mary Brophy of St. Pete, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, and her brother, Thomas Lanning, Jr.

Visitation will take place on Friday, June 23rd from 4–7 pm at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 24th at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY.

If desired, memorial contributions can be made in Patricia’s name to Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th St., 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022 or Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
Arrangements are entrusted to Quigley Bros. Funeral Home; to send condolences or to get directions to the funeral home, please go to www.Quigleybros.com
