Obituaries: Michael Bridges

March 10, 2017

 March 7, 2017
Michael Bridges entered into eternal rest peacefully at his home in Manassas, VA. following a long and hard-fought battle with colon cancer. Born in Quincy, MA to Judy Gaspie and the late Wilbur Bridges, he was a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, neighbor and friend.

From the shores of Massachusetts to the beaches of Virginia, Mike could always be found with a smile on his face and a lax stick in his hands. After graduating from the US Military Academy at West Point, Mike had a distinguished career in the Army, retiring in 2006 at the rank of Lt. Colonel. Upon retirement he set out on a second career in IT consulting, working closely with the military focusing on the IT needs of the Army. Mike loved to spend time with his friends and family, teaching and coaching the youth in his life, playing golf, riding his Harley, navigating the back bay in Sandbridge, Virginia Beach, or simply doing home projects or lending a helping hand to others.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sheila M. Bridges of Manassas, VA; children Caitlin Bridges, Jared Bridges, who is currently stationed in Maryland serving in the U.S. Army and Rachael Bridges, currently attending college in VA; sister Kerry Bridges, her daughter Olivia and son Jeremy; brothers Tim Bridges and Donald Bridges and his wife Christina; aunt Diane Fleming; brother-in-law Shawn P. O’Neill; sister-in-law Michele O’Neill McNicholas, her husband Dave and their daughters Elissa and Monica; sister-in-law Patty O’Neill Tedesco, her husband Mark and children Marcus, Thomas, Becca, and Amanda; and brother-in-law William T. O’Neill, his wife Lisa and children McCullough and Jack. He was predeceased by his loving stepfather John Gaspie, infant son Ryan P. Bridges, infant daughter Margaret Mary Bridges, mother-in-law Rita J. O’Neill and father-in-law William T. O’Neill.

Friends and family may call at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory, 3200 Golansky Boulevard, Woodbridge, VA from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 9. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi, Roman Catholic Church on Friday, March 10 at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the U S Military Academy at West Point on Monday March 13 at 10:00am.
