 OCDW LAUNCHES HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
HELP WOMEN MAKE A HOLIDAY DINNER IN A SAFE HOME!

NOVEMBER 22, 2016 — (HIGHLAND MILLS, NY) Orange County Democratic Women launched a holiday food drive for
survivors of Domestic Violence who are currently seeking shelter with Safe Homes of Orange County. OCDW Is asking
people all over Orange County to donate food items so that women who are trying to start their lives over free from abuse and fear can make holiday dinner for themselves and their children. Since the women in shelters have limited kitchen supplies, OCDW is asking for donations of food items that are easy to prepare. A list is below.

“ Being able to prepare a meal in their own kitchen is a way to help survivors of violence maintain dignity. Orange County Democratic Women wants them to know that people in the community support them,” said Willa Freiband. “The gift of dignity and a holiday free from fear and abuse, lets women and their children know there is a positive future for them, ” she concluded.

The cutoff date to donate food items is December 15. Members of OCDW’s holiday committee will assemble bins of
Foods that comprise a complete meals and deliver them to Safe Homes. The goal is to give each recipient all the
ingredients she needs to cook a complete dinner for 6.

DONATE A GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR A TURKEY (OR HAM) AND A DESSERT PIE

A PLASTIC BIN WITH A LID AND THE FOLLOWING ITEMS FOR A FAMILY OF 6:
NUTS—EXCLUDING PEANUTS ** SOUP— BOX/CAN/ENVELOPE ** CORNBREAD—BOX MIX
GRAVY—JAR OR ENVELOPE ** STOVE TOP STUFFING ** POTATO BUDS OR CAN YAMS
CRANBERRY SAUCE— CANNED ** VEGETABLES—CANNED ** ALUMINUM FOIL ROASTER PAN
Orange County Democratic Women members will collect donated items and deliver bins to Safe Homes of
Orange County before Christmas. Donated items can be dropped off at the following locations by Dec. 15th.
