Letters to the Editor: Response to Mr. Chase

July 07, 2015

Dear Editor

In response to the Town of Cornwall Democrat Chairman Mr. Chase’s letter dated June 26, 2015, I find it quite ironic that he finds his letter which offers “hope and change along with some blame” as anything new in today’s politics. Right out of the gate it is all about change and blame. Change and blame the “old regime”. Does that include the past two, five or ten years or the past twenty or even thirty years? Define “old”? If is the latter than I know that I wasn’t part of the “old regime” nor were any of the endorsed Republican candidates running for the Town Board this November. I have been the Chairwoman of the Republican Committee for the past two years and a resident for 6 years. I also would like to consider myself a little too young to be part of any “old regime”.

In addition, Mr. Chase was proud to make the announcement of his committee’s endorsed candidates running for Town Board along with the statement that the time for “business as usual” is over, when the candidate that he endorsed for 2015 Town Supervisor has held the office of the Town of Cornwall Supervisor for at least 16 years out of the past 30 years and moreover he held the position as far back as 1982 to most recently as 2007. In addition, an article was just printed in the Times Herald Record on June 29, 2015 announcing that his endorsed candidate “wants his old job back” as Town Supervisor. So I find Mr. Chase’s statement that one party has controlled the Town Council for as long as anyone can remember is preying upon the ignorance that voters in Cornwall don’t know or will not choose to learn the history of the politics of Cornwall and will just concur with his broadly unfounded statement.

The current Town Board which I am proud to say has served the Town of Cornwall well and has the best interest of the Town and will continue to do so for years to come. The Board is not only dealing with decisions that were made years ago that impact Cornwall today but more importantly they are making the decisions today that will protect Cornwall for years to come.

Jeanne M. LaBarge
Cornwall Republican Chairwoman
