General News: Notes from the Village Board Meeting

February 28, 2015

Village Board Meeting
By Emma Friedrich

CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON, NY – On Monday, February 23rd, 2015 the Village of Cornwall held their board meeting. The meeting was push back a week because President’s Day had occurred on the board meeting’s regular schedule, so the room was nearly empty.

The Board started on a light note, approving and confirming that the 11th Annual Melissa Fund Sun Run will kick off on May 16th, 2015. Be sure to show your support and attend, if you’re not running.

The board also wanted to remind everyone that the Mid-Hudson Postal Facility, at Stewart Airport, is officially scheduled to close on April 18th, 2015. However the board is signing a Proposal Resolution stating that the Village is against the closure. Hopefully this will be the support that the facility needs to remain open.

Mayor Coyne wants personally let everyone know that Village Elections will be held Wednesday, March 18th, not Tuesday. He also hopes that everyone comes out to vote and support the candidates.

Earlier the previous week, General Electric sent a letter to the Village Hall asking permission to further dredge the Hudson River. The Board approved the continuation of PCB removal on Monday. However, according to the letter, GE has completely cleaned 90% of the Hudson and the main focus will be on the 40 mile stretch from Fort Edward to Troy, NY. However, some further dredging will occur in Cornwall’s waterway. GE expects that by the end of 2015 the Hudson River cleanup will be complete.

Any questions about the Dredging should be sent to  [email protected] or call (518)792-4087.

Any questions for the board should be sent to
